چکیده

Sc3CH@C80 is synthesized and characterized by (1)H, (13)C, and (45)Sc NMR. A large negative chemical shift of the proton, -11.73 ppm in the Ih and -8.79 ppm in the D5h C80 cage isomers, is found. (13)C satellites in the (1)H NMR spectrum enabled indirect determination of the (13)C chemical shift for the central carbon at 173 ± 1 ppm. Intensity of the satellites allowed determination of the (13)C content for the central carbon atom. This unique possibility is applied to analyze the cluster/cage (13)C distribution in mechanistic studies employing either (13)CH4 or (13)C powder to enrich Sc3CH@C80 with (13)C.

Magnetic anisotropy of endohedral lanthanide ions: paramagnetic NMR study of MSc2N@C80-Ih with M running through the whole 4f row.

Paramagnetic and variable temperature 13C and 45Sc nuclear magnetic resonance studies are performed for nitride clusterfullerenes MSc2N@C80 with icosahedral Ih(7) carbon cage, where M runs through all lanthanides forming nitride clusters. The influence of the endohedral lanthanide ions on the NMR spectral pattern is carefully followed, and dramatic differences are found in peak positions and li...

Sc3N@Ih-C80 as a novel Lewis acid to trap abnormal N-heterocyclic carbenes: the unprecedented formation of a singly bonded [6,6,6]-adduct

The reaction between an N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC), namely 1,3-bis(diisopropylphenyl)-imidazol-2ylene (1), and Sc3N@Ih-C80 successfully affords a Lewis acid–base pair (2a). Single crystal X-ray crystallographic results unambiguously reveal the unexpected structure of 2a where the abnormal carbene center of the NHC is connected to a triple-hexagon-junction (THJ) carbon atom of Sc3N@IhC80 via a...

Comprehensive and accurate tracking of carbon origin of LC-tandem mass spectrometry collisional fragments for 13C-MFA

In recent years the benefit of measuring positionally resolved 13C-labeling enrichment from tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) collisional fragments for improved precision of 13C-Metabolic Flux Analysis (13C-MFA) has become evident. However, the usage of positional labeling information for 13C-MFA faces two challenges: (1) The mass spectrometric acquisition of a large number of potentially interf...

Unexpected 13C-enrichment of organic components from wheat crop soils: evidence for the in situ origin of soil organic matter

Various organic constituents extracted from wheat and from soil organic matter have been analysed for their carbon content, their absolute concentration and their stable carbon isotope ratios. Most organic subfractions from plants, or soil, are 13C-depleted by up to 9.4‰ relative to bulk organic matter, mainly as a result of their higher lipid content. Furthermore, soil organic constituents are...

Explanation of the different preferential binding sites for Ce and La in M 2 @ C 80 ( M 1⁄4 Ce , La ) — a density functional theory prediction

Metallofullerenes have many possible uses in technology and even in bio-medical applications. Some fullerenes have been found to have two incarcerated metal atoms such as M2@C80 (M 1⁄4 La, Ce, etc.). We have calculated the structural and electronic properties of Ce2@C80 using density functional theory (DFT). Ce is known to be preferentially incorporated into the Ih symmetric C80 isomer as La do...
